Decided to buy the Subaru. Talked him down a little, so I got it for $1,500. I hope it will run forever!!! It is so scary to buy a car when you know so little about motors etc. I had an oil change before hitting the road to Homer.
When I was going to buy some groceries I saw a little boy with a blue and yellow shirt "Three Crowns" (Tre Kronor) so I went up to him and asked if he spoke swedish. His dad walked up and started speaking Swedish with a southern dialect!!! (Where I am from!) He was from Horby and is now living in Seward, about 2 1/2 hours from Homer. He gave me his number and e-mail and said I can come celebrate Christmas and Midsummer with them if I want to. There are a few other swedish families they get together with too. Sounds like fun.

Subaru
(Saturday, July 26, 2008)
I almost overslept this morning because I had set the alarm for p.m. instead of a.m. Not good.
After class I looked at the Subaru that I am interested in. It's a little rusty and the back door doesn't lock, but I test drove it and I will think about it till tomorrow. The guy showing me the car was from Switzerland so we ended up chatting for a long time. It is always so great to meet a fellow European. Tonight I went to the movies. A tradition when I am up here.
My friends in Anchorage are letting me drive one of their cars while I am here, they are camping and I have the whole house to myself. They are the best!!!!

To Anchorage
(Friday July 24, 2008)
I had taken off work on Thursday so I could get to Anchorage a day before school, but I ended up working all day with the ballots so we would be done and we could go to Anchorage. Well, we finished but didn't get there until 4:30 this morning so I had to go to class with only 3 hours of sleep. Tough! The class was called "Managing conflict and resolving disputes" and I really enjoyed it. He was teaching us how to be mediators in disputes, and I think it would be a great career, maybe I'll look into it after I am done with my studies.
Spent a few hours online looking for a car to buy. I might have found an old affordable Subaru.

work, work, work
(Tuesday 22, Wednesday 23, July 2008)
Worked about 11-12 hours both days. No time for anything fun to write about. Bought a ticket to fly to Anchorage, but I am going to cancel it because I will be getting a ride with the owners of the the print shop when they are driving up to deliver the ballots... Perfect!

Poor puppy
(Monday, July 21, 2008)
The loaf made it's way out around 4 this morning. Troy woke me up whining and I took him outside, poor little guy. I doubt he learned a lesson though. He is a little pig and would do it again if I left more food around.
Worked all three jobs today adding up to 12,5 hours. Figured out I worked 64-65 hours last week!!!

sooooo tired....
(Sunday, July 20, 2008)
This week's hard work finally caught up to me. I woke up late, very groggy and had a hard time getting ready this morning. Tried to tackle a few cleaning projects but I can't say it looks much better afterwards. I just don't have the energy to really get into it today. A friend from out of town was here for the day and we decided to go to lunch,. She picked me up, but on the way to the restaurant her car broke down and we ended up walked to a fast food restaurant close by, not exactly what we had planned, but better than nothing. Got a ride home from her father-in-law. It was windy and cold and I didn't feel like playing soccer this afternoon. I left Troy with my groceries in the car and he ate a whole loaf of bread within a few minutes!!!! Found a few pieces of plastic and crumbs on the seat. Not good... I hope he doesn't get sick.

To the movies
(Saturday, July 19, 2008)
"All work and no play makes Jessica a grump" so I managed to sneak away to the movies tonight after working 12 hours. The movie was scary but quite disappointing. I had very high expectations, but it was still fun to get out. I also went to my friend's house to feed her fish and they had left me a box of chocolate. Yummy!!!!

Troy 1 1/2 years old
(Thursday, July 17, 2008)
Read some old journal entries. I am so much happier and healthier this year than what I was a year ago. It was such a rotten year.
I realized it is 2 years and 2 days since I last saw mamma!!! (Saknar dig!)
Worked at the print shop 9:15-10:25 a.m., photo shop 10:30-1:30 p.m. and restaurant 2-8:50 p.m. Tips was great tonight, $27, but then I had to get gas for $59!!! Wish gas prices would go down a little...

Happy half birthday Troy!

T I R E D...
(Wednesday, July 16, 2008)
Worked 8:45-4:50 p.m. at the photo shop and 5:30-8:30 at the print shop. Had to take that break in between jobs and run home and take Troy for a long walk. Poor little guy. I'll make it up to him when this third job is over. We'll go play ball more often in the park or something. At least I have fun at work. It would be awful if I didn't like what I was doing. They let me work at the printer for about an hour or so, because the person doing that job had to leave early. That is my favorite part...

Third job on the way...
(Tuesday, July 15, 2008)
I was offered a temporary third job today, helping with printing ballots for the primary election in August. I helped 2002 (I think) and loved it, so I asked them to call me when they were starting this year. I'll go in tomorrow and whenever I have an hour or two... Tonight I went to the airport and said goodbye to my friend Mei and her kids. They are going to the Philippines for 4 months and I will miss her a lot. I like hanging out with her and Josh late at night. I guess it's just me and Troy now.
My friend who is selling my dream cabin/house asked if I wanted to rent it till they can get a buyer or she moves back in the spring, but my rent is so low right now I can't really afford moving out there and then what happens if they sell it in a month or so. Where would I go then?
I would have loved to live there though...

Three months...
(Monday, July 14, 2008)
I miss Yakutat. Today was three months since I moved and even though I like Homer, sometimes I really miss Yakutat. I heard they have had a lot of rain there, so I guess I am happy we don't get that kind of rain in these parts. Worked almost 10 hours today... I hope it will slow down a little once school starts, but I doubt it. It will more likely be worse, with all the homework I'll have!
Finished an awesome book about an Australian journalist who moved to Paris and I loved her sense of humor. It was called "A.l.m.o.s.t F.r.e.n.c.h" minus the dots, just so I can't be googled....

Goalie...
(Sunday, July 13, 2008)
Slept late and didn't get out of bed until 11:40 a.m. Got some laundry done and then played soccer again. I tried being a goalie most of the day and it is really hard. We are ordering shirts with Homer Siren's logo on it and I picked number 13. I always liked that number, probably because I was born on the 13th! My friend is doing a little better...

Earthquake
(July 11, July 12, 2008)
Got bad news about a friend. I try not to worry but can't help it.
Today we had an earthquake while I was at work, I think I heard someone say it measured 3.6, and the customers freaked out a little bit. We haven't had as many as I remember from the first few year I lived in Homer.
Went to hang out with Mei and Josh at their house, got home almost 3 a.m.

Probably denied...
(Tuesday, July 8, 2008)
I called to make sure I will be excused from jury duty in Juneau next week now that I have moved to Homer. What a relief... Don't want to miss work right now, even though I would like to go to Juneau one day.
I also called the bank to find out if there was any news on my loan application. She didn't give me much hope because they usually want 4 years after a bankruptcy and I only have 3 right now, and I also don't have a long enough work history here in Home yet... She said they would send me a letter when they had reviewed everything, but I doubt the letter will say anything different than what she said today.
My allergies were awful today so I will have to carry my medicine with me to always be prepared.
Was reading from my journal about my years in Yakutat and got very homesick....

Mistaken identity
(Monday, July 7, 2008)
I don't think I have mentioned it here before, but in the past 3 months I have been mistaken for another girl in town named Jess. Strangers come up to me and say "Hi Jess!!!" I look very confused and ask them how we know each other. I guess she works at a chiropractor in town so one day I should go in there and see if I can "find myself". I think it is pretty odd that in a small town like Homer there is someone that looks like me with my name...
Worked a long day, both jobs today, 8a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with about an hour for lunch.
