Extended weekend in Anchorage

Anchorage view

(Sat. April 19, Sun. April 20, Mon. April 21, 2008)

My friend from Yakutat left early Saturday morning to fly back home, and I spent the day with my friends Jamin, Cate and their kids. Around 5 p.m., us grown-ups went to a movie at a place where they served food in the theater, so every seat had a table. The movie only cost $3, because they are not new releases, but so what. It will be my new favorite place to visit anytime I come to Anchorage. I can't believe I have been missing out all these years...

We didn't actually order any food there because we ended up buying pizza and eating with the kids later, but I had such a good time.

Sunday I borrowed their other vehicle and tried a church nearby that I had heard about all the way in Yakutat. It was pretty nice, maybe a little to big for my taste, but I enjoyed it. Ran around and bought a few little things that I will need for my apartment. Later that afternoon, my friends had visitors, two adults and their four children. Five adults and eight (!) children piled into two vans and went to the movies at the mall. I have never been around so many well behaved children at one time. We were quite the sight, took up 1 1/2 rows in the theatre...

The movie was really fun, a cartoon based on a famous children's book about an elephant that saves the little world of the Who. Don't want to put the name of the movie here if someone googles it and my page will pop up. Anyway, it was really cute...

The truck wasn't ready today, Monday, as promised (of course), so I am still here. The new deadline is set around noon tomorrow, we'll see...

The family I am staying with took their kids to swimming lessons at a pool this afternoon and I brought a book and sat out on the bleachers by the football field, read my book and talked on the phone for over an hour. Got a little color on my cheeks, very nice. Tonight I did some last minute purchases, a comforter for my bed that I don't have yet (!) and spent some time at a bookstore just for fun.

I miss my dog a lot, but I know he is well taken care of, but I have really had a great time here in Anchorage. Still it will be nice to go South again tomorrow if it all works out.
