Library

(Thursday, April 24, 2008)

I was trying to save gas today, it's $3.97/gal. here in Homer. When I filled my truck up in Yakutat 11 days ago it was $4.72, but I heard it is supposed to go up to $6 in the next few days...
Anyways, I was not going to go to town today, but my friend had to drop her kids at music lessons, so I tagged along and ended up spending about 2,5 h at the library. I was able to download my drafts and add photos for my blog and chat with a couple friends too. It felt good to be caught up on my blog.
It's a really great library for such a small town. For years we had a really wimpy one where every time they purchased a new book they had to get rid of an older one. That is just wrong. I remember interviewing the library director years ago for a college essay "why Homer needed a new library" and we both had big dreams what a new library should look like. Later, when the plans were being made we talked again and she wanted my input. I told her about the new library in my hometown in Sweden where there were these huge windows overlooking the park outside and lots of tables and chairs in front of the window. Well, the Homer library now has similar windows and chairs overlooking the ocean and mountains. I'd like to think I had at least a small part in how it all turned out...
